Food intolerances are unpleasant reactions to foods. In some people, these reactions can cause distressing symptoms and long term ill health. Some people are unable to digest certain foods or may be sensitive to a particular ingredient, whilst others make antibodies in response to the food concerned.

These antibodies are called IgE and IgG antibodies. IgE antibodies cause allergic reactions - these occur quite rapidly, often within minutes, but generally within a maximum of two hours. Food intolerance cause by IgG antibodies is quite different - not usually life-threatening, although it can and does make the sufferer feel unwell. It is sometimes very difficult to identify the food or combination of foods that are causing the problem, as symptoms can appear up to 48 hours after the food has been eaten.

The Food Intolerance Test detects IgG antibodies to 45 commonly eaten foods, using a highly sensitive immunoassay technique usually carried out in a laboratory. All that is required is a pin prick of blood which is taken in the clinic. The results are either posted out to you, or you can book a follow-up consultation which would allow me to guide you through the results and help you plan any dietary changes that are required.
