1. Eating oily fish, nuts and seeds can actually assist with weight loss.

2. Broccoli contains twice as much vitamin C as an orange. It is also a rich source of calcium plus it contains important antioxidants vitamin A, E and selenium.

3. Avocado has the highest protein content of any fruit. It is also a rich source of vitamin E and B6.

4. Cabbage juice promotes the healing of stomach ulcers.

5. Garlic is antiviral, antibacterial and may help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

6. Magnesium deficiency is common in modern diets - magnesium is necessary to improve the absorption of calcium and needed for energy production and muscle relaxation.

7. Low fat diets can make you depressed. Research has linked diets that drastically cut down on all types of fat with an increase in symptoms of depression.

8. Carbohydrate cravings may be a subconscious attempt to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is the neurotransmitter, or brain chemical, responsible for mood, sleep and appetite control.

9. Drinking orange juice, or eating citrus and other good sources of vitamin C, helps the body absorb iron from fruit and vegetables.

10. New potatoes and cold spuds (think potato salad) provide a slower release of energy than hot potatoes. This is because the sugar changes back to starch when the potato cools.
